LA MIRADA, Los Angeles County — October 25, 2026. La Mirada residents planning to sell used furniture, clothing, tools or other household goods at home should first check the city’s garage sale permit rules. The municipal online application system currently states that households may have no more than two garage sales per calendar year and must obtain a city permit.

What does the permit cost, and when can a sale operate?

The city lists a $16 permit fee and says a permit covers no more than two consecutive days, limited to Saturday and Sunday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The online registration form requires information about the applicant, the sale address, category of goods and dates, followed by payment. The application is a city service, not a California58 checkout.

What are the rules for signs?

The official instructions allow a sign at the permitted property of no more than six square feet, with similarly sized directional signs on private property only with the owner’s permission. The city expressly prohibits attaching signs to public trees, utility poles, street signs, medians and parkways. Temporary signs must be put up and taken down on the appropriate sale day. Violations may result in enforcement action under the city code.

What if it rains or plans change?

La Mirada instructs a resident wishing to postpone or cancel a sale to contact the local Community Sheriff’s Station no later than 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The city says an eligible permit may be postponed only once, to the following weekend. The exact circumstances for a refund or date change should be verified with the issuing office before purchasing.

Can buyers search for sales?

Yes. The city also provides a public garage sale search page that can filter by dates, ZIP code and type of goods. Listings are submitted through the municipal permit portal. The fact that a sale is shown there is not a guarantee of prices, inventory or the seller’s reliability.

For questions contact the City of La Mirada or use its official garage sale registration system. A separate California58 Classifieds advertisement does not replace a municipal garage-sale permit. Follow other community reporting at La Mirada News.
